Abstract
This research paper, titled “A Research Review of the Methodology and Style of the Fatāwā of Jāmiʿah Mazhar-ul-ʿUlūm, Mingora, Swat,” examines the method of issuing Fatāwā, the use of arguments, and the writing style of the Fatāwā of Jāmiʿah Mazhar-ul-ʿUlūm Mingora, Swat. The study explains the academic and legal methods used by its scholars to address religious and social issues of the present time. The research shows that these Fatāwā mainly rely on the Qurʾān, Ḥadīth, Fiqh, Uṣūl al-Fiqh, Qawāʿid Fiqhiyyah, and the opinions of major Fuqahāʾ. In some issues, different juristic opinions are discussed and the preferred opinion is identified. In modern issues, careful legal reasoning, blocking the means to wrong actions, and clear legal rulings are also used. The study also discusses the reformative and social role of the Fatāwā. The scholars have addressed innovations, unlawful customs, and incorrect social practices, and have provided lawful alternatives where possible. The Fatāwā are generally written in simple and clear language, with direct and brief answers. Separate questions are answered separately, and the identity of the questioner is protected. The research concludes that the Fatāwā of Jāmiʿah Mazhar-ul-ʿUlūm combine the Qurʾān and Sunnah, Islamic legal reasoning, principles of jurisprudence, reformative thinking, and a simple writing style. They provide guidance on modern issues and contribute to social reform and religious awareness. Therefore, these Fatāwā are an important part of the religious and legal heritage of Swat.
