Abstract
This study examines one of the famous and oldest comentry of Imam al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith “Sharh al-Arba'in al-Nawawiyyah attributed to Ibn Daqiq al-'Id”. The writer of this comentry is Taqi al-Din Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Wahb, famously known as Ibn Daqiq al-'Id (d. 702 AH), was a scholar of eminent standing in both jurisprudence and Hadith. His scholarly personality was distinguished by the convergence of the Shafi'i and Maliki legal traditions, methodological precision, and Hadith-based reasoning. The commentary under study is attributed to him. The analysis shows that the history of commentary does not follow a simple movement from brevity to expansion. Early works already display concise juridical reasoning, structured analytical explanation, and extensive hadith and athar-based exposition.
