This study presents an analytical examination of modernist scholars’ efforts and their methodologies of inference (Manahij al-Istinbat) in addressing contemporary issues. Adopting a qualitative research methodology, the research employs textual and content analysis of primary works by key modernist thinkers, classical Usul al-Fiqh texts, and contemporary academic literature. It explores how modernists reinterpret foundational sources, integrate rational tools, and apply ijtihad to derive contextually relevant rulings. Comparative analysis is used to evaluate modernist approaches against traditional frameworks, with emphasis on flexibility, contextualization, and Maqasid al-Shariah. The findings reveal that modernist methodologies have broadened Islamic jurisprudence’s engagement with modernity, yet they also raise critical questions about methodological consistency and adherence to textual authority.
