الملخص

This paper examines the concept of patriotism (ḥubb al-waṭan) and its Shariah status within the framework of Paigham-e-Pakistan. Drawing upon the Qur’an and Prophetic traditions, the study argues that love for one’s homeland is a natural human sentiment and, when directed toward justice, peace, and communal welfare, remains consistent with Islamic principles. Although patriotism is not regarded as an independent religious obligation, it serves as a means of fulfilling broader objectives of Shariah, including the protection of life, religion, property, and honor. Within the context of Paigham-e-Pakistan, patriotism is presented as a moral, religious, and legal responsibility that rejects terrorism, sectarian violence, and rebellion against the state, while affirming loyalty to the constitution and lawful authority. The paper critically evaluates this position by highlighting its strengths in countering extremism and promoting national unity, while also addressing the challenges of balancing national loyalty with the transnational identity of the Muslim Ummah. It concludes that patriotism, when aligned with Shariah principles, is both permissible and commendable, serving as an important instrument for peace, stability, and the collective welfare of contemporary Muslim societies.
