Abstract
The growing gap between generations is an important social issue of the contemporary era, whose effects are becoming increasingly evident in family life, upbringing, morality, and social stability. Modern technology, social media, global culture, contemporary educational trends, economic difficulties, the clash between traditional and modern values, lack of effective communication, and changes in the family system are among the major causes of this widening gap. The older generation tends to view life through the lens of its experiences, traditions, and values, whereas the younger generation is influenced by modern knowledge, technology, individual freedom, and changing social trends. This intellectual and cultural difference can lead to mistrust, intolerance, and emotional distance between parents and children, as well as between the elderly and younger members of society. Islamic teachings provide a balanced and comprehensive framework for addressing this issue. The Qur’an emphasizes kindness toward parents, respectful communication, maintaining family ties, and fulfilling family responsibilities, while the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ established compassion toward the young and respect for the elderly as fundamental principles of Islamic social life. In light of Islamic teachings, reducing the gap between generations requires the promotion of mutual respect, love, patience, tolerance, consultation, effective communication, and sincere concern for one another. Parents should understand the problems and emotions of young people and give them trust and responsibilities, while the younger generation should respect the experience, status, and rights of their elders. Educational institutions, families, and the media should also play a constructive role in this regard. If Islamic principles are implemented in practical life in harmony with contemporary needs, the existing gulf between generations can be reduced, leading to the development of a strong, balanced, and mutually trusting society in which the experience of the older generation and the energy of the younger generation complement each other.
