The Analytical Study of Najm al-Din al-Tufi’s al-Taʿyīn fī Sharḥ al-Arbaʿīn نجم الدین طوفی کی“التعيين فی شرح الاربعين” کا تجزیاتی مطالعہ

Abstract

This study examines one of the famous and oldest comentry of Imam al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith “of Najm al-Din al-Tufi’s al-Taʿyīn fī Sharḥ al-Arbaʿīn”. The writer of this comentry is Najm al-Din Abu al-Rabiʿ Sulayman ibn ʿAbd al-Qawi al-Tufi (d. 716 AH) was a prolific scholar associated with Hanbali jurisprudence, legal theory (usul al-fiqh), dialectics (jadal), and Hadith studies. His scholarly personality is characterized by systematic reasoning and a tendency to divide issues into their constituent elements for analysis. Al-Taʿyin fi Sharh al-Arbaʿin is a clear example of this intellectual approach. The analysis shows that the history of commentary does not follow a simple movement from brevity to expansion. Early works already display concise juridical reasoning, structured analytical explanation, and extensive hadith and athar-based exposition.
